As soon as they introduced the ability to buy lootboxes for real money, I lost interest in the game. I don’t want to play a Battlefront game where other players have advantages because they payed more money, especially when you may be at a disadvantage because some rich kid has more money to splash out.
The lootboxes themselves are fine as you can get them through playing the game and everyone has equal chances of items. I do believe however, they could have just left it at cosmetic rewards like Overwatch does, and that game does it well.
Here’s a quote by some guy from EA:
“Players will be rewarded in the game through regular play in many different, earnable ways including crates. For those that want to accelerate the rewards, they can do so by purchasing crates that contain randomised items and rewards.”
Accelerate is the word to focus on here. The point at which you can buy power upgrades, through lootboxes is where the game leans toward a pay to win model. I wouldn’t say it’s fully pay to win as you can’t buy items individually. I just think indirectly buying power upgrades is a bad thing in a multiplayer setting, especially in a game where you have to shell out money for a AAA priced game.
But I guess if they aren’t charging for DLC, they can charge for something else entirely.
I recommened watching the video below from BattlefrontUpdates on YouTube.
